Orthodontist Treatment Instructions / Braces
We are happy to accept you as a new ortho fixed patient (stirrup) We hope this article helps you become familiar with the procedures in the treatment plan
CLINICAL PROCEDURES
1. INITIAL CHECK
The initial visit is a clinical examination to determine your orthodontic needs. We will advise you on any problems and corrective treatment needed. Also discussed are the estimated costs and subsequent procedures.
2. DIAGNOSTIC RECORDS
If treatment is indicated, Records will be taken so that the doctor can study the problem and determine correction procedures. We will do :
- Printing for top and bottom study models
- Facial and intra oral photos
- X-ray photo
If you will be shown good tooth brushing technique, instead one of the parents was present at this visit.
3. CONSULTATION
Both parents and the patient are asked to attend this appointment. We will discuss maintenance issues in detail, Estimated length of your treatment. the need for your cooperation, total costs and payment schedule
4. INSTRUCTIONS
Routine instructions are given directly to the patient. We think it is YOUR responsibility to accept this challenge.
5. AGREEMENT
You may have to fulfill many maintenance agreements, If you are unable to fulfill your scheduled appointment, please contact us to notify us of changes to your visit schedule
6. COOPERATION
The quality and results you get from treatment depend on your efforts in personal care of your teeth, Because we cannot control your tooth brushing habits. Your good efforts can give RESULTS in the form of teeth that are not dirty and rotten when the brackets come off. We cannot control the wear time of the elastics. Your efforts to follow the instructions can move your teeth more quickly and your treatment results will be better.
And always remember, If you are a good patient, then we will go through the treatment faster and the results you get will be better. To be a good patient, you must obey the instructions. comply with all agreements, try your best
GOOD HYGIENE HABITS
1. TOOTHBRUSH (ONLY THE SOFT FURRY)
- Automatic toothbrush . Place the bristles where the gums and teeth meet, brush slowly 5 seconds per tooth.
- Hand brush, Apply a circular/vibrating motion around the gum line. 10 seconds on each tooth.
- Brush your tongue and roof of your mouth
2. SPRAY WARM SALT WATER
Use every day after brushing your teeth by spraying water at the gum line with low pressure to remove food particles from the orthodontic appliance., leaving blood in the gums.
If it's finished, Look in the mirror to make sure that the orthodontic appliances are fastened and the gums are tight (not slack). If the gums hurt and or bleed, gargle constantly, This problem will disappear immediately.
REMEMBER! HEALTHY GUMS DO NOT BLEED, A BERME MOUTH IS A HEALTHY MOUTH!
VITAMIN C : Eating a good diet and getting enough sleep is important during orthodontic treatment. Don't snack often, Take vitamin C for healthy gums.
Use toothpaste or mouthwash that contains FLUORIDE for added protection.
FOOD HABITS THAT SHOULD BE STOP OR PROHIBITED
1. HARD FOOD
- Batu Es, Popcorn, Pizza Crusts and Fries, hard candy, roasted corn, Palembang crackers, opaque crackers, dent, fried peanuts, the sound of a submarine, gravel, goat satay, steak dll
- The meat is shredded, lontong/ketupat/somay/baso cut into small pieces, apples and other fruits cut into small pieces
Use common sense when choosing food and remember to remove all hard foods from your mouth, Every Hard food can Break and Dislodge your Orthodontic appliances.
2. STICKY FOOD
Chewing gum, Dodol, Caramel Any food that is really sticky can loosen or loosen your orthodontic appliances.
3. STOP BAD HABITS
Sucking thumbs, breathe through the mouth, sticking her tongue out, biting fingernails <Bad habits can cause your teeth to move in the wrong direction
ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCES
- Bucal Tube/Band : a tool that is installed on the molar teeth and has a slot
- Bracket : a device that is attached directly to the tooth

A deal you've been waiting for, all the brackets are removed then the remaining glue stuck to the teeth is cleaned and the tartar is also cleaned then the teeth are molded to make a RETAINER (A removable appliance designed to hold your teeth in the correct position)
RETAINER USE AND CARE
1. RETAINER USE
- 6 The first month the retainer is worn for 24 jam (eat and brush your teeth later), 6 The following month I only used it at night while sleeping
- The plastic feeling disappears quickly and your speech will be normal within a few days even with the retainer in place
- The pain will go away in a few days, even after setup
- Do not push the retainer with your tongue, This can damage your teeth
2. RETAINER CARE
- Clean with a toothbrush and sometimes with artificial teeth cleaning with warm water
- If it is not in the mouth, the retainer must be in a special box that was given to you (No
wrapped in paper or put in a bag) - Keep away from pets
- Bring a retainer on every deal
ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCES (2)
- Archwire : The attached wire fits around the curve in the bracket groove
- Power 0/elastic ligature : rubber module 0 which fastens the archwire into the bracket
- Kawat is bound : small wire that fastens the archwire into the bracket
ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCE IS DAMAGED OR LOOSE
Archwire is broken, If the buccal tube and bracket are removed, contact us immediately, If not treated immediately it can cause the teeth to shift in the wrong direction and must be treated as quickly as possible. If the wire sticks out and pierces the gums, handle it yourself at home, namely bend the wire inward with a wooden matchstick or dry it with a tissue and apply wax to the area so it doesn't puncture.
ELASTIC RUBBER
Used as a light staying style for ,adjust one curve to another curve. The teeth will definitely move if the elastics are used consistently as recommended…! If the elastic is worn one day and removed the next day, Your teeth form a resistance that slows or stops your progress plus increases discomfort, If you wear it for a week and take it off one day, your teeth can shift to their original position
MAINTENANCE TIME
Even though wearing orthodontic appliances is something new and strange, it is often stressful, the device should not be left for too long.
The length of treatment depends on :
- The severity of the problem
- Patient cooperation
- Patient age
- Always keep up with visits
When wearing orthodontic appliances, you can experience :
- Teeth become sore
- Difficulty eating
- Longer time to clean teeth
- Canker sores occur
But don't give up..! Your continuous efforts will give the best results.
